With Trail geometry and longer travel suspension the Highpoint is a better choice and a much more capable bike off-road than an XC bike.

The Suntour XCM fork is a simple and reliable coil spring design but it still has 5 inches of suspension fork travel, 25% more than some comparable bikes.

The drivetrain components are excellent, a Shimano Deore 1x10 setup including the crankset and bottom bracket. Deore is typically spec'd on bikes above $1,000.
